Troubled school girl Brooke Bates had one dream as her weight soared to 15 stone – she wanted a body just like the Barbie dolls she used to play with. And she was ready to do anything to make it happen..It led to her becoming the youngest girl in the world to undergo cosmetic surgery when she had a tummy tuck and liposuction when she was just TWELVE. It proved to be just the start as in the next five years she was fitted with a gastric band and had breast implants in her increasingly desperate attempt bid to become a living doll.So far it has cost her parents £34,000, but Brooke has no regrets. “Before I had the tummy tuck I can honestly say I was on the verge of killing myself as I felt so fat and ugly,” says Brooke, who is now 17. “No one can blame my mum for letting me go ahead with the surgery. She didn’t want to lose her daughter.“Having surgery so young definitely made me obsessed with my looks, but what’s wrong with a girl wanting to make the best of herself?
“Being a real-life Barbie sounds like a dream, but at the end of the day it still takes a lot of work.”It was in 2006 that Brooke first went under the surgeon’s knife.“At first my parents didn’t like the idea,” she says. “But after constantly being bullied at school and accused by strangers of being pregnant, my mum saw how miserable I was and gave in.”Brooke underwent liposuction and a tummy tuck procedure at a US clinic, which together cost £15,000 and led to a five-stone weight loss.Yet three months later she had put it all back as she could not stop eating.
Desperately worried that Brooke would be permanently obese her family, who live in Texas , travelled to Mexico where she could legally be fitted with a gastric band at 13.
Miracle-Beans treatment helped mother carry Twins full-term – after three agonising miscarriages
Cuddling her twin babies, Stacy Bodle just can’t stop smiling – after years of heartbreak and tragedy, she is finally a mum. And the 30-year-old married businesswoman owes it all to a pioneering fertility “recipe” of eggs and soya beans, normally used to treat malnutrition. After the agony of three miscarriages, including one set of twins, Stacy and her husband James, 34, are now the proud parents of three-month-old Harry James and Libby Rose. Stacy said: “I have hardly slept for the past 13 weeks but I’m not complaining. They have been the happiest weeks of our lives.“We were trying for three years for a family. There were so many awful times and to sit here and see our lovely twins staring back at us is wonderful.” Stacy was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries after she miscarried in 2007 and was referred for IVF.
But she had two more miscarriages because of an undetected medical condition. Tragically, in February last year, she lost the twins she was carrying. Tests later confirmed she has too many natural killer cells which support the body’s immune system and can attack an embryo. So doctors at the CARE fertility clinic in Sheffield tried a pioneering treatment, first used in Chicago . They gave her three doses of intralipids – a blend of natural fats made up from egg yokes and soya oil – administered through a drip.
Wow-Man unknowingly liveblogs Bin Laden operation
CAIRO - A computer programmer, startled by a helicopter clattering above his quiet Pakistani town in the early hours of the morning Monday, did what any social-media addict would do: he began sending messages to the social networking site Twitter. With his tweets, 33-year-old Sohaib Athar, who moved to the sleepy town of Abbottabad to escape the big city, became in his own words "the guy who liveblogged the Osama raid without knowing it."Soon the sole helicopter multiplied into several and gunfire and explosions rocked the air above the town, and Athar's tweets quickly garnered 14,000 followers as he unwittingly described the U.S. operation to kill one of the world's most wanted militants.
His first tweet was innocuous: "Helicopter hovering above Abbottabad at (is a rare event)."The noise alarmed Athar, who had moved to the upscale area of Abbottabad to get away from city life after his wife and child were badly injured in a car accident in the sprawling city of Lahore, according to his blog in July.Nestled in the mountains around 60 miles (95 kilometers) northeast of the capital, Abbottabad is a quiet, leafy town featuring a military academy, the barracks for three army regiments and even its own golf course.
As the operation to kill Osama Bin Laden unfolded, Athar "liveblogged" what he was hearing in real time, describing windows rattling as bombs exploded. He questioned whose helicopters might be flying overhead? "The few people online at this time of the night are saying one of the copters was not Pakistani," he tweeted.Athar then said one of the aircraft appeared to have been shot down. Two more helicopters rushed in, he reported.
Nice-Fraudster Calls Police on Himself
OTTAWA — A fraudster couldn't bring himself to go through with a plan to rob the bowling alley he'd already ripped off for $30,000, so he turned himself in to police.Michael Gignac, 41, was given a six-month conditional sentence and two years of probation on Thursday after pleading guilty to fraud over $5,000.Gignac's gambling addiction led him to steal $31,075 from Laurentian Lanes Ltd., a chain of alleys that includes Vanier's McArthur Lanes. The money disappeared in a hurry so he hatched a plan to fake a burglary in April 2010. But after Gignac cut the cables to the surveillance cameras, he could sin no more and told police all. The landscaper has already put aside $2,000 to be paid to Laurentian Lanes and will make restitution in full to the tune of $200 each month.
