Disbelief- 98-year-old faces gambling charge

NICOSIA  - Cyprus authorities say they will drop charges against dozens of elderly women for gambling after reports of their prosecution triggered disbelief among the public.
Some 42 women aged between 60 and 98 had received a summons to appear in court this month after police nabbed them playing a local version of gin rummy at a private residence in 2009.
Gambling for even the smallest amounts - in the women’s case, police netted a total figure of about 100 euros ($130) - is banned on the east Mediterranean island.
By contrast, online gambling, an industry which has an estimated turnover exceeding 1 billion euros per year, is unregulated although lawmakers plan to introduce legislation on the matter next month. “I asked for the file on the case and I immediately gave instructions for prosecution to be suspended,” Attorney-General Petros Clerides told state television.
The women, dubbed “Supergrans” by one newspaper, say their hobby helps keep their minds alert and allows them to socialise. “What would they have expected us to do when we are 96,” said Eftychia Yiasemidou. Now 98, the former schoolteacher says she still indulges in her favourite hobby. “I only stopped about 20 days ago, temporarily, because of the cold weather,” she told the Politis daily. (Reuters)

Forced-Feds Arrest Mansion Dweller in Servant Case (paid .85/hour)

Illegal alien slept in closet, was paid .85/hour

FEBRUARY 29--A New York woman who lives in a 34-room, 30,000-square-foot mansion is facing a federal criminal charge related to her employment of an illegal alien who allegedly served as a domestic servant in a “forced labor situation” that included her working 17-hour days, seven days a week, and sleeping in a walk-in closet. Acting on a tip received by the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, federal immigration agents last year removed the servant from the 12-acre estate (pictured below) on the Mohawk River in Rexford, a hamlet 20 miles north of Albany. A subsequent criminal investigation determined that the woman--who barely spoke English and came from the Kerala state in India--was paid about 85 cents an hour during the 67 months she worked for Annie George and her husband (who died in a plane crash in mid-2009). The servant, identified only as “V.M.” in a court filing, cooked for the George family, cleaned the sprawling mansion, and cared for the couple’s five children. The George estate has a helicopter pad, an indoor swimming pool, 15 fireplaces, Scandinavian marble flooring, a four-story solarium, 24-karat gold gilded ceilings, a glass elevator, and an array of other features. Before his death, George’s husband listed the residence for sale at $30 million. According to a criminal complaint filed Monday against Annie George, 39, the servant entered the U.S. on a non immigrant visa in 1998 to work for the family of a United Nations employee. She began working for the Georges in late-2005 after being offered about $1000 per month, a substantial pay increase. In reality, “V.M” received sporadic minimal payments from the Georges. A U.S. District Court complaint estimates that the servant received about $29,000 over the five-and-a-half years she worked for the family. A U.S. Department of Labor investigation determined that the woman was “lawfully entitled” to a minimum of  “approximately $206,000 for the entire approximate six years of V.M.’s work.”

Lesson-Pervert Gets Two Years in Prison for Putting His Semen in Yogurt

The grocery clerk who placed his semen in yogurt samples he gave to female shoppers at a New Mexico supermarket was sentenced yesterday to two years in prison.
While the repulsive crime might seem to merit harsher punishment, federal sentencing guidelines spared Anthony Garcia, 32, a lengthier term since he was considered a first-time offender (though he had been involved in a series of other instances of public indecency and is currently facing a state charge of having criminal sexual contact with a child under age 13).
Garcia, pictured in the above mug shot, pleaded guilty last year to adulterating a yogurt sample he gave to a 29-year-old customer at the Sunflower Market in Albuquerque. The victim told police that the yogurt was “gross and disgusting” and tasted like semen.
Investigators believe that Garcia gave similarly tainted samples to at least four other women, three of whom ingested the yogurt. In a sentencing motion, a federal prosecutor noted that Garcia “tricked his victim into placing his semen into her mouth,” since he “wanted to be in a position to witness the victim consume his bodily fluid.”
Upon his release from Bureau of Prisons custody, Garcia will be placed on probation for three years. Garcia’s two-year sentence matches the prison term given last month to Joseph Bartorillo, 60, who admitted injecting his semen into the yogurt containers of two female coworkers at a Procter & Gamble plant in Pennsylvania.

Damages -Frenchman sues Google over Street View urination photo

NANTES, France — A Frenchman took Google to court Thursday over a photo published online by its Street View application showing him urinating in his front yard which he believes has made him the laughing stock of his village in rural northwest France.
The man, who is aged around 50 and lives in a village of some 3,000 people in the Maine-et-Loire region, is demanding the removal of the photo, in which locals have recognized him despite his face being blurred out. He also wants about $13,300 in damages.
"Everyone has the right to a degree of secrecy," his lawyer, Jean-Noel Bouillard, told Reuters. "In this particular case, it's more amusing than serious. But if he'd been caught kissing a woman other than his wife, he would have had the same issue."
Google's Street View, covering some 30 countries and available in France since 2008, enables users of Google Maps to also view photos of

Mistake--Colo. gov. accidentally calls lt. gov. 'sex star'

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper's flattering comments about Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia turned into a bit of a flub. The governor mistakenly referred to Garcia as a "rising sex star" Wednesday. He made the remark while introducing him at a childhood literacy event attended by about 40 children at a Denver elementary school. Hickenlooper routinely introduces Garcia as a "rising star" and a "rock star" at public events. The Democrat immediately caught his slip, which was recorded by radio station KOA. The Denver Post ( http://goo.gl/NMxxA) reported the comments Thursday. According to the tape, Hickenlooper says, "Now I get to introduce that rising sex star — symbol. I mean, symbol — not star." After some awkward laughter, he deadpanned that it might go down as one of his most difficult news conferences.

Why-Woman called 'slut' by Limbaugh (video)

President Barack Obama called Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke on Friday, just before her appearance on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” to offer support as she weathers a growing firestorm over comments from Rush Limbaugh.
Fluke appeared on TODAY Friday morning to talk about the comments, in which Limbaugh called her a "slut" for speaking out as a birth control activist.

Georgetown University president, John DeGiola, also weighed in with a letter addressed to the school community criticizing the behavior of Limbaugh and other conservative commentators who have made similar statements as “misogynistic” and “vitriolic . On Twitter, the Sleep Train mattress store chain announced it would pull ads from Limbaugh’s show in response to his comments about Fluke and birth control.
However, Limbaugh doubled down on those comments during his show on Friday. He devoted much of the first half of the three-hour show to blasting Democrats and the “liberal” media for over-hyping the issue. They want to blame me as the person (women) should fear,” Limbaugh told listeners. On Friday, House Speaker John Boehner called Limbaugh’s comments “inappropriate.” TODAY.com was buzzing Friday with heated comments about the issue.
Some agreed with Limbaugh’s criticism: “She knew the risks, she made the choice,” wrote Mike Foster.“Being a law school student (sic) you’d think that she’d be smart enough to go to Planned Parenthood like every other ‘normal’ person,” wrote Jennifer Brown Bellgraph.
While others strongly disagreed: “This guy need (sic) to get off the air,” wrote Melissa Duncan. “There was no need to slander this woman and humiliate her to this degree.”
