Deposed Libya leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi died today as his hometown of Sirte was captured, reports claim.The dictator has spent decades as an enemy of the west for his support of terrorism, but he has also been mocked for his more eccentric behaviour.

Here are Colonel Gaddafi’s tops 10 oddest moments...

1. Travelling abroad, 40 female bodyguards who he insists must be virgins.

2. In 2009, while in Rome for a food summit, Gaddafi ordered 500 girls from an escort agency, specifying they should be at least 5ft 7in and aged between 18 and 35.

3. Gaddafi’s first meeting with Tony Blair saw the Libyan leader insult the British Prime Minister by showing him the sole of his shoe – a serious show of contempt in Arab culture.

4. He takes his Bedouin tent on his travels, and in 2007 pitched it in the grounds of a Paris five-star hotel, where he allowed his camel to roam.

5. His first - and only - address to the UN saw him launch into a rant, demanding answers over JFK and insisting George W Bush and Tony Blair be tried for war crimes.

6. He once filed a motion with the UN to abolish Switzerland

7. Gaddafi made more friends on a trip to Italy though, when he apparently “adopted” the small town of Antrodoco.

8. As a dictator it is fairly simple to order the release of prisoners – but Gaddafi decided to make things a bit more exciting in 1988, driving a bulldozer into prison gates in Tripoli, releasing 400 inmates.

9. As well as running a country, Gaddafi apparently has time for car design. In 2009 the Saroukh el-Jamahiriya was unveiled – the Libyan Rocket.

What-Firefighter called to fire at own home

SIMCOE, Ont. — A volunteer firefighter in this southern Ontario town did a double-take when he was called to a fire at his own home.Trevor May listened to the call twice Wednesday morning around 6:30 a.m. before he realized the home he shared with his wife, three children and parents was ablaze.May, a firefighter in Simcoe for 12 years, was at the scene in under two minutes. He arrived ahead of his colleagues from the Simcoe firehall and took an active role in putting out the flames."It was contained to the basement in a backroom, a storage area," May said at the scene. "There was quite a bit of damage there."Norfolk Fire & Rescue estimates the damage at $40,000.

A cause of the fire has yet to be determined. (QMI)

TRENTON, N.J. — A political candidate in New Jersey is taking heat for tweeting that the way for a woman to keep her man is to be a "whore in the bedroom." Republican state Senate candidate Phil Mitsch says he didn't mean to offend women. He says the comments were a version of advice given by others, including women.Democrats attacked Mitsch for the tweet as well as others the candidate claims were doctored.The state GOP has also withdrawn support, telling The Philadelphia Inquirer his comments made him unfit for office.Mitsch's tweet read: "Women, you increase your odds of keeping your men by being faithful, a lady in the living room and a whore in the bedroom."Even without the controversy, Mitsch was a long shot in solidly Democratic Camden County. A thief used a crane to lift a Jeep Wrangler off of a northern Indiana car lot over the weekend, local media reported. Surveillance camera footage at LaPorte Chrysler showed someone driving a truck carrying a crane onto the lot, then circling around to park next to the 2008 Wrangler, Chicago NBC station WMAQ reported. Then the thief hooked the Jeep with the crane and loaded it onto a trailer. The entire operation, which occurred at 6:40 a.m. Sunday, took all of six minutes, according to WMAQ. "The Jeep has to be heavily damaged," The Chicago Tribune quoted dealership general manager Matt Magnuson as saying. "He clamped into the roof, put the jaws through both doors and lifted it up."(MSNBC)

Funny-Woman accidentally calls cop for drug deal

JACKSON, Miss.  — Hinds County deputies said a 61-year-old Pearl woman is accused of accidentally calling a detective to make a drug deal. The Sheriff's Department said Judy Weible accidentally called the cellphone of a detective on their Street Crimes Task Force. At first, he thought it was a joke and ignored her follow-up calls. "In initial calls, she wanted to sell some pills. He blew her off, and evidently she didn't like being ignored, so she started sending a series of text messages," Lt. Jeffrey Scott said. "That's when we kind of took it seriously."

Deputies said they were able to set up a time to meet her and make an arrest. The Sheriff's Department said Weible was carrying 30 hydrocodone tablets, which they said sell for about $20 each.

'Alien' and 'floating orb' captured on film in the Amazon rainforest

The image, which shows an unidentified being standing with its back arched a few feet from a what looks like a floating orb of light behind a group of children, was apparently taken from video footage captured by two British tourists visiting the Mamaus region of the Brazilian rainforest. The video was obtained by noted paranormal writer Mike Cohen, who says the area is known for its 'intense UFO activity'. He said: 'This is highly compelling footage that will be hard to discredit.
