Nice-Polish coffin-maker uses nude models to sell wares
WARSAW - A Polish firm that makes coffins has angered the Catholic church by trying to drum up business with a calendar depicting topless models posing next to its caskets. One image from the 2013 edition of the calendar has a blonde model, wearing only a skimpy thong and with a snake draped around her neck, reclining on a coffin. In another, a woman wearing a crimson corset is depicted pulling out the heart of a man lying on a
casket. “My son had the idea of creating the company’s calendar... so that we could show something half-serious, colourful, beautiful; the beauty of Polish girls and the beauty of our coffins,” said Zbigniew Lindner, the firm’s owner. “We wanted to show that a coffin isn’t a religious symbol. Its a product,” he said. “Why are people afraid of coffins and not of business suits, cosmetics or jewellery?” As well as attracting publicity for his firm, the calendar is intended as a source of revenue. It is on sale on the company’s website. Anyone who places an order receives a complementary key ring in the shape of a coffin. The Catholic church has condemned the calendar as inappropriate. A church spokesman has said that human death should be treated with solemnity and not mixed up with sex.
Wow-Meet Koshik the 'talking' elephant
LONDON - An Asian elephant named Koshik can imitate human speech, saying words in Korean that can be understood by speakers of the language, researchers from the University of Vienna say. It is unclear why Koshik started mimicking human speech but cognitive biologists Angela Stoeger and Tecumseh Fitch suggest in research published in the journal Current Biology that it might be related to his experiences as a juvenile. Koshik was the only elephant living at the Everland Zoo in South Korea for about five years in his youth, with only people for company during an important phase for bonding and development.
We suggest that Koshik started to adapt his vocalizations to his human companions to strengthen his social affiliation with them, something that is also seen in other vocal-learning species and in very special cases, even across species,” said Stoeger.
Why-Parents accused of killing daughter with acid for talking to boy
Parents in a rural village in Pakistan are accused of murdering their 15-year-old daughter by dousing her in acid when they caught her talking to a boy outside the family's home, local police said. Anvu Shah suffered third-degree burns on her face, arms and chest. The girl wasn't taken to hospital until the next morning, where she died Wednesday, Tahir Ayub, a police officer, told Agence France Presse. The teen's older sister notified police, AFP reported, and the girl's parents allegedly confessed to the attack. "(The girl's father Mohammed) Zafar beat her up and then poured acid over her with the help of his wife," Ayub said. The attack happened in the Khoi Ratta district in northern Pakistan.
What- Woman arrested after masturbating in Starbucks

The Smoking Gun reports police were called to a Bradenton Starbucks because staff saw a woman masturbating in their lobby.A responding officer spoke to the woman in question, 29-year-old Jennifer Piranian of St. Petersburg. According to Piranian's arrest report, she told police she was waiting to go to the hospital because of an infection or possible spider bite she had. While that did not explain why workers claimed to have seen her masturbating, the officer went ahead and offered to personally take her to the hospital, if he could first do a search of her purse.
Piranian reportedly consented, and police found a glass stem inside that tested positive for cocaine residue. Piranian, who denied the stem was hers, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. She is currently in jail on $1,120 bond.
