OTTAWA -- Talk about adding insult to injury. Mike Kang, owner of the Midas on Bronson Ave., found a $75 parking ticket Wednesday on the windshield of his vehicle, which was parked in the lot of his business. "I think I'm going to go to the city to fight it," Kang said at his shop Thursday. "I'm very, very upset." Kang, 50, said he parked his vehicle in a marked spot on his lot before receiving the ticket. It's one of the spots closest to the road and what used to be a sidewalk. It's hard to make out where exactly the property line is now because road work has chewed up the pavement. Perhaps the greatest irony is the reason for the ticket: "Stop on sidewalk." Thing is, there is no sidewalk. Bronson Ave. is a construction zone and all the infrastructure has been torn up to replace century-old water and sewer pipes. Work on the two-year, $30-million project started last March.

A man who took a pregnancy test as a joke has been diagnosed with cancer in time to treat it, all thanks to a comic posted on Reddit. Reddit — the self-branded "front page of the Internet" — is a social news site with 43 million members and three billion monthly page views. Its users are called Redditors. Last week, Redditor CappnPoopdeck shared a comic she'd compiled about a male friend of hers who found a pregnancy test in his medicine cabinet, took it for laughs, and got a positive result. Redditors, thinking the comic was autobiographical, told CappnPoopdeck to get tested for cancer.
"If this is true, you should check yourself for testicular cancer. Seriously. Google it," wrote one user "Testicular cancer releases some of the same hormone markers that pregnancy tests check for, so although I'm not sure that it's 100% accurate it definitely means he needs to get checked out pronto," wrote another. Pregnancy tests, in fact, detect beta human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone found in pregnant women. But it can also signal testicular cancer. "It turns out a fair number of testicular cancers make the same exact hormone," Dr. Mark Pomerantz, a genitourinary oncologist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, told ABC News."There are very few things in the body that produce beta hCG, and testicular cancer is one of them."

NOVEMBER 8--Thanks to this past weekend’s daylight saving time switch, an Ohio man was arrested for two separate drunk driving incidents at the same time early Sunday morning, records show. Niles Gammons, 22, was first pulled over by an Urbana cop when he was spotted driving an Oldsmobile the wrong way in an alley. Pictured at right, Gammons was pulled over at 1:08 AM by an officer who reported that he reeked of booze and had glassy eyes.
Sergeant Dave Reese noted that when he sought to have Gammons perform a Breathalyzer test, “I could hear that he had something in his mouth.” As it turned out, Gammons’s mouth was filled with pennies. “I then advised Niles that pennies in the mouth were a myth and that it did not help in taking a breath test,” Reese noted.After Gammons’s blood alcohol content was measured at .116, he was arrested for drunk driving. After being transported to the Urbana police headquarters, Gammons was issued citations and “released to an adult.”Following Gammons’s departure, Reese wrote, “At 2:00 AM, the time changed from daylight savings time to standard time and 2:00 AM became 1:00 AM.”At 1:08 AM--“exactly one hour after the first stop”--Reese was driving his patrol car in Urbana’s municipal parking lot when a vehicle “backed out of a spot rapidly and nearly collided with my cruiser.”

It has been 10 days since the storm tore through the east coast. A bitter Nor'Easter slammed the area this week. That's left millions of drivers desperate for gasoline. "After three hours, sometimes we reach the pump and there is no gas," cab driver Saghier Hussein said. With the growing market for gas, some people have turned to the Internet to offer or ask for sex in exchange for fuel.
"Ladies -- I have 30 gallons of gas in my shed. Would exchange for service. Please send pictures," one posting read. "Got 15 gallons of gas. Am willing to trade for some female company. How much I give up depends on what you are willing to give up. If you're interested, send some pics.
