Lucky-Heart Defibrillator saves Knife Stabbing

A man who was stabbed near the elevators at the Transit Center at Fashion Valley may have been saved from more serious wounds by his heart defibrillator. According to police, the stabbing happened at 6:25 a.m. Thursday at the trolley station at 7007 Friars Road West. A 57-year-old victim got into an argument with an acquaintance identified only as “Rick. “As the argument escalated, investigators said Rick used a buck knife to stab the victim once on the left side of his chest. The assailant then fled the scene. The knife hit a defibrillator inside the victim’s chest. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Just before 9 a.m., Trolley Security located the suspect, 60-year-old Richard Kiley, at the Imperial Trolley Station. Police arrested Kiley on charged of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

A Dallas-area high school was forced to pull back its yearbooks after a section described some students with special needs as “mentally retarded.” Officials at the Mesquite Independent School District have apologized to families and students of Mesquite High School, east of Dallas, for a section dedicated to students with disabilities that contained errors and offensive language, district spokeswoman Laura Jobe said.“It was with the best of intentions and not meant to ridicule or disparage anyone in any way,” Jobe told msnbc.com on Tuesday. “We believe the students didn’t understand the term ‘retarded’ was not acceptable. It was just an error that was overlooked and got printed, unfortunately.”

Why-Tot goes for spin after dad puts him in washing machine

Most kids take tumbles, but one little boy took a tumble wash at a laundromat after his parents put him in a washing machine. The YouTube video “Parenting fail at a laundromat,” which had nearly 6.5 million hits as of Tuesday morning, shows the couple loading one machine with clothes before the man picks up the toddler and gently deposits him in the next front loader, then shuts the door. In between the pair’s frantic attempts to yank the door back open, the child is seen spinning around inside the machine. According to the description by uploader PrincessZenbra, the machine auto-locked and started its cycle.

Very bad-Fired for being too hot/sexy

A New Jersey woman said on Monday that she was dismissed from a temporary job at a New York lingerie warehouse because her male employers felt she was too busty and dressed too provocatively for the workplace. Wearing a form-fitting sequined black dress and black leather, sequin-studded boots, Lauren Odes, 29, said her Orthodox Jewish employers at Native Intimates told her that outfit and others like it were “too hot” for the warehouse. We should not be judged by the size of our breasts or the shape of our body,” Odes said. Odes’s attorney, celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred, said she filed a gender and religious discrimination complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in New York. Odes said she felt her wardrobe was appropriate for a business that sells “thongs with hearts placed in the female genital area and boy shorts for women that say ‘hot’ in the buttocks area. Media photographers climbed on chairs and crashed into each other as Odes held a pose and Allred held up a series of purple, black and brown outfits she said also led to the woman’s dismissal. Odes said that on successive days during her week-long employment in late April she was warned that her attire was too alluring, that her breasts should be taped down to make them look smaller, and that she was asked to wear a red bathrobe to cover one outfit. “This whole experience has been horrifying to me,” she told reporters. “I love fashion and I always will, but I don’t believe any woman should be treated as I was.Odes, whose said her duties included data entry and coordinating the shipping of samples to customers, said she eventually agreed to purchase a sweater to wear over her dress, but was dismissed anyway.
