What-Cops investigating 'free baby' ad
Police in Victoria, B.C., are investigating an ad posted on a buy-and-sell website that offered up a baby "free to a good home." The ad on UsedVictoria.com included a picture of an infant. Someone reported the ad to police on Monday, and cops are working with the Internet service provider to track down whoever is behind it. The possibility that it was just a prank hasn't been ruled out. "We're certainly hoping it's a hoax," Const. Mike Russell told radio station News1130. "It's not a funny hoax, but I'd rather see that than some child who actually is being offered up for free." The ad has since been taken down.
Cruelty-Man built dungeon to imprison ex-wife's friend
OSHAWA, Ont. – A 45-year-old man who built a dungeon in an abandoned farmhouse listened intently as his ex-wife and her friend — a woman he intended to imprison — talked about living in fear. Then, as Robert Edwin White's sentencing hearing drew to a close on Monday, he delivered a rambling speech that included an apology. "I committed a crime and for that I am very sorry," White told court as he began speaking for 20 minutes from the prisoner's box. Tissues in hand, occasionally dabbing his eyes, he tried to explain his actions prior to his arrest in February. White said there was "an awful lot of strife" in his marriage to Patricia Gallagher, with whom he has two kids, 11 and 13. And he was angry at her relationship with Gwen Armstrong. White said he initially blamed Armstrong for their marriage woes but is now grateful that she took in Gallagher and their kids. "I had been hurt and I didn't handle it well," White said of his decision to start building the dungeon in 2010. He admitted wanting to abduct Armstrong and confine her in the sealed room in the basement of the north Pickering, Ont., farmhouse. "I thought that I was doing this for my children, to free them from a bondage situation," he said.
Wow-Car wash busted for allegedly offering free sex after nine washes
Some loyalty cards let you rack up points, but one business in Malaysia allegedly offered its customers something they could really use: free sex after nine car washes. Police say they busted the car wash near Kuala Lumpur last week after discovering it had a partnership with a massage parlour, the Malay Mail reports. They were tipped off when they raided the parlour and found the car wash cards on several alleged customers of
prostitutes there. "It was supposed to be just another routine operation," Emmi Shah Fadhil, the officer in charge, told the paper. "To get the extra 'offer' customers must send their cars for washing nine times within a certain period. The tenth car wash will entitle them to free sex," Fadhil said, which would usually cost between 130 and 180 Malaysian ringgit (about $40-56). Nine Vietnamese women, aged 18 to 28, were arrested on suspicion of prostitution. Four men suspected of running the scheme were also detained.
