Surprise- British soldier unexpectedly gives birth on front line

There were shades of reality TV when a British soldier who didn't know she was pregnant gave birth on the front line in Afghanistan. The servicewoman, who has not been identified by British media, is stationed at the U.K.'s main base, Camp Bastion, where Prince Harry is also deployed.

She complained of stomach pains Tuesday, and later had a baby boy at the base's field hospital. The timing of the birth, in her 34th week of pregnancy, means she had conceived before arriving for her six-month tour of duty. She is said to be so fit, she passed gruelling pre-deployment training without realizing she was carrying a child. The gunner, with the 12 Mechanised Brigade, helped provide covering fire for troops when the base came under attack last Friday. A spokesman for Britain's defence ministry told the Telegraph that pregnant women are not allowed to serve on the front line but that pre-deployment testing does not include a test for pregnancy. Soldiers who discover they are pregnant are sent home. Maj. Charles Heyman, as quoted in the Daily Mail, said it should. The editor of the British Army handbook said the army should do a "simple urine test" on female soldiers. Mom and baby are said to be doing fine and will be accompanied on their flight home by a medical team from Oxford, which is on its way.

Why-It’s safe to Taser teens: Study
Adolescents show no greater incidence of injury from being Tasered than adults, according to researchers who examined data from "real-life" altercations between police and youth. The study was done by Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in N. Carolina, and funded by the U.S. agency National Institute of Justice. "We were looking closely for increased risk of cardiac effects and bodily injuries because of the differing body size and build of adolescents, but there were no significant injuries reported for this age group," said the study's lead author, Dr. Alison R. Gardner. Figures in a database going back to 2005 showed 2,026 records of Taser use, 100 of which involved suspects between the ages of 13 and 17 mostly in cases involving civil disturbance, assault, robbery and burglary. Police knew or believed suspects were intoxicated by drugs or alcohol in about a third of the cases.
"There were 20 mild injuries recorded, and the majority of these were expected superficial puncture wounds from the weapons' probes," Gardner said. However, she noted, the minors involved were generally more like adults in size, with an average weight of 168 lbs. and height of 5-foot-8. "This implies that law enforcement personnel are using Tasers as apprehension aids when physical apprehension is not easily accomplished, as would be the case in smaller and younger subjects," she said.

Wow-Cat runs for mayor of Halifax

Tuxedo Stan the cat will kiss as many kittens and shake as many paws as it takes to win Halifax's mayoral race. By far the fluffiest mayoral candidate, Stan is the official representative of the Tuxedo Party, an organization that aims to "improve the welfare of felines in the Halifax Municipal Region." The party's motto? "A chicken in every pot & a litter box in every house."

Of course, bylaws prevent Stan from actually appearing on the ballot, but that isn't stopping him from campaigning. And his mayoral run is garnering him media attention worldwide. His popularity even has his human competition getting worried. "I'm just glad I'm not running against Tuxedo Stan. He is everywhere these days. #hfxpoli," wrote candidate Waye Mason on Twitter. Stan's mission is to stand up for the less fortunate. "I feel very fortunate to live in Catopia. I've never known hunger, cold or abuse. I sleep in a warm, cozy bed every night. I get to play in a safe fenced yard every day. Unfortunately, there are cats all over the world who aren't so lucky. You can help by donating money or time to a local rescue group," Stan is quoted as saying on the Tuxedo Party Facebook page. While Stan can't officially run the city, he may follow in the pawsteps of Stubbs, the tourism-promoting tabby who's held the unofficial title of Cat Mayor of Alaska for 15 years.
Grooming process-Figure skating coach charged with sex assault
TORONTO – A prominent Canadian figure skater and coach has been arrested and charged for an allegedly historic sexual assault, and police say there may be more victims out there. Kevin Michael Hicks, 53, was one of Canada's top three men's figure skaters in the '70s and parlayed that success into a career as a coach after his retirement. Toronto Police allege he used that position of influence to sexually assault a boy numerous times from 1983 to 1990. The boy was 12 when the alleged assaults began. "Our greatest concern is ... the amount of exposure he had to so many children in these communities," said Det. Const. Todd Jones. "We've only found about these accusations so late." Hicks coached for the Woodbine Winter Skating Club, Weston Skating Club, Burlington Skating Club and Windsor Skating Club in the '80s. Jones said the victim was allegedly told by the suspect that there were more victims. It's part of a "grooming process" predators use to convince children what they're doing is OK, he said.

How-Couple Sold Neighbor's Lost Dog on Craigslist
SEPTEMBER 19--A Pennsylvania couple who found a neighbor’s lost puppy is facing criminal charges after they allegedly opted to sell the dog for $50 on Craigslist instead of returning the pooch to its owner, police allege. The six-month-old Rottweiler puppy (and a second dog) appeared earlier this month at the Leechburg home of Scott and Roxanne Duff, according to a probable cause affidavit. Roxanne Duff, 38, called cops since she “was unsure what she had to do with the dogs,” adding that the puppy “had taken off again and did not return to her residence.”

Later that night, Shawn Lerch, owner of the two dogs, informed cops that Duff returned his golden retriever, but that the puppy, named Bailey, was still missing Lerch told cops that he believed the dog (seen above) was still as the Duff residence. In a Facebook post, Lerch wrote that the missing dog “is very important to our family. Mostly our daughter so if u see her please get hold of me. And if u have her and return her today i will not press charges.”

What-Florida Farmhand Busted For Lewd Donkey Show

SEPTEMBER 18--A Florida farmhand arrested for having sexual contact with a miniature donkey explained to cops that the Sunshine State was “backwards” since its residents “frown on zoophilia,” according to a police report. Carlos Romero, 31, was collared yesterday and charged with misdemeanor sexual activity with an animal. Investigators report that a witness last month spotted Romero, pictured in the mug shot at right, “up against the rear of the donkey” apparently having sex with the animal. Romero--who

was shirtless and had his pants down--pulled away from the donkey when he spotted the witness, who had been delivering a horse to the barn he rents. When interviewed Friday by cops, Romero made a series of shocking admissions. He began by saying that he “uses his fingers and saliva to clean the donkey’s clitoris and check for wood shavings and debris,” adding that he “gets aroused” by seeing an animal in heat.
